Edition #23

On the menu this fortnight: Sora is falling, Disney is folding, Anthropic is cashing in, Gemini takes over Android.
The bankers are joining the dance. Anthropic lands Blackstone, Goldman Sachs and Hellman & Friedman; OpenAI is preparing its own $10 billion fund. AI is no longer sold one seat at a time, but in entire enterprise portfolios. For employees, the choice of tool is slipping out of their hands.
Microsoft comes up with a clever idea: have one AI judge another, and have ChatGPT and Claude debate the same question. Who judges the judges?
In Hollywood, the dream is collapsing. The Disney-OpenAI marriage died before the signing, and Sora — the AI that was inventing consumer videos — sees its downloads melt from 6 million to 1 million per month.
France’s CERT-FR puts on the brakes: AIs that act on their own on your PC are not ready. ChatGPT, meanwhile, quietly adds a feature that speaks volumes: designate a loved one to be alerted if the conversation goes off the rails.
Stranger still, Anthropic is teaching its AIs to « dream »: replay their past sessions to improve on their own.
And the smartphone changes hands. With Gemini Intelligence on Android, the user no longer drives their apps: the apps run themselves for the user.
